STEPS TO GETTING STARTED

STEP 1: Determine which program is for you. Entry-Level Merchant Mariner, USCG Online Able Bodied Seaman Certificate Course, or the traditional sailing experience Two Weeks Before the Mast/Recreational Marlinspike by reviewing each program's requirements listed on our Online Courses Page.

 

STEP 2: If you have additional questions after reviewing the application requirements, introduce yourself through our Contact Us page and we will get back to you.

 

STEP 3: If you are ready to join an upcoming class fill out one of the following applications or learn more at the GHHS website.

STEP 4: Wait for a response from the Seafarer Collective team regarding your application. Once processed, we will reach out to discuss your application's standing and set up a potential interview. 

 

STEP 5: If accepted, begin your self-paced online course!

Each course comes with unique self-paced online curriculum, varying onboard crewing 

opportunities,

USCG endorsement support. 

WHAT ARE THE BASICS?

ENTRY LEVEL MERCHANT MARINER

​

  1. 18 + years old

  2. Have a doctor's approval to participate and can pass a drug test

  3. Have no criminal history that is a safety concern

  4. Access to a computer

​

ONLINE AB CERTIFICATE

​

  1. All Entry-Level Mariner Requirements 

  2. Documented Required Sea Time

CAN I GET FINANCIAL AID?

Payment installments and financial aid are available to eligible candidates. To be eligible for an Entry-Level Merchant Mariner Program scholarship, your 2019 income must be less than twice the federal poverty level(e.g. $24,280 for a single person)

​

We do not currently offer Financial Aid for our Recreational Marlinspike Course or Online AB Certificate. Crew Development Grants may be used for our Online AB Certificate if awarded.
